Local Organizations in Alliance

South Wasco Alliance (SWA) hosted a strategic planning event on July 22 that connected representatives from over twenty local organizations and interest groups to learn more about how each organization and group contributes to the South Wasco community and how we might be able to work together to make our collective efforts easier and more effective. For the second year, the community planning session was facilitated by the Organizational Development Network-Community Consulting Project (ODN-CCP).

The event brought together representatives from our local…

❖ fire, ambulance, and emergency management services

❖ health, wellness, and food security services

❖ early childhood and public education

❖ historical, cultural, and civic engagement interest groups

❖ business, entrepreneurial, and “main street” interest groups

❖ government, infrastructure, and planning organizations

❖ service, learning, and recreational organizations; and

❖ community centers, halls, and fairground organizations.

Participants identified six priority focus areas for the coming year:

  1. Housing and accommodations,

  2. Youth engagement / education

  3. Economic development, including childcare and workforce development

  4. Leveraging the infrastructure

  5. Health and wellness

  6. Senior community support

Follow up meetings are scheduled for Sept. 7th and 8th to discuss next steps.
