South Wasco County Recycles!

The City of Maupin continues to host the public recycling center twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, between 9am and noon. The service is widely used, not only by residents of Maupin, but also by surrounding areas. It is a valuable addition to our community, providing eco-friendly waste removal and contributing to the overall sustainability and cleanliness of South Wasco County.

That’s right you don’t have to drive all the way to The Dalles!  The Recycling Center is located in the reservoir yard on Water Avenue next to Mt. Fir Park in Maupin.  They accept cardboard, glass bottles (no other glass), yard debris, and co-mingled paper, cans, and plastic bottles. Staff or volunteers will be on hand to help you learn what is acceptable and where to place it.

Current recycling center volunteer Colleen Strohm had this to say about the center; “Recycling in Maupin! When we first moved to Maupin and signed up for garbage service, we were sad to see there was no curbside recycling option. So, we stored our recyclables in the garage and filled up our car and drove it all to the Dalles a couple times a month. Now we have the wonderful opportunity to recycle in South Wasco County.

The recycling center takes corrugated cardboard, mixed recycling—plastic jars, paper, clean food cans—glass bottles and jars, and even yard debris! I have been volunteering at the recycling center on Wednesdays since the start. I bring our recycling and then I usually stay for two hours. I have met lots of people as I help them sort their items and remind them what goes in and what needs to go into the garbage. The recycling center is looking for more volunteers. An hour or two on Saturday would be great! Or someone to come on Wednesdays from 10-12 or 11-12. It is a great way to keep the recycling happening in our city! In between customers we walk back and forth getting our steps in so you can count this as your exercise for the day. If you are interested, contact city hall. This city depends on volunteers to work alongside our city employees. We can’t all be volunteer firefighters or EMTs (but we do need more of those, too!) Recycling center is a great opportunity for you to help your community.”

What a great way to give back to the community and the planet while getting to know more of your South Wasco County neighbors. Contact the Maupin city hall for more info or learn how you can help.
